Design & Aesthetics

Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop design

The Predator lettering now only appears under the screen, for a more mature vibe. The color scheme is subtle and professional but still stands out due to the red-backlit keyboard and heat vents on the bottom right side of the laptop. The laptop weighs in at 5.07 pounds making it portable enough to take on any trip you take, even international ones without issue.

Processor (Intel Core i7-10750H)

The 10-core processor is clocked at 2.6GHz, and it can reach up to 5.0GHz with Turbo Boost. It features 12MB of cache and 64GB of memory capacity. This allows you to run large programs such as Photoshop with ease. Of course, if your games require a more powerful graphics card than what’s built into your laptop – which most gaming laptops have – you’ll have to go out and buy one (or upgrade). Acer has included 16GB of DDR4 RAM with 32GB options for future upgrades.

Screen Size and Resolution

The Acer Predator sports a 15.6-inch screen size and resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, which is standard fare in terms of screen size and resolution for gaming laptops. Gaming-oriented displays can now update at up to 165Hz thanks to Nvidia’s G-Sync technology, and many display manufacturers are ramping up their offerings around that sweet spot; there’s also DisplayPort 1.4 support, which helps add higher refresh rates when using compatible displays or G-Sync/FreeSync solutions.

Cooling Fan Capacity

You can’t exactly have a laptop that shuts down after half an hour or is so hot to the touch that you don’t want to hold it. Acer knows better than anyone, and in order to make sure the system stays cool enough for long gaming sessions, they engineered 5th Gen AeroBladeTM 3D Fan Technology into the airflow. The ventilation is on point, ensuring your system doesn’t overheat during even your longest sessions of Fortnite or PUBG. All-around excellence? We think so. One thing we love about Acer systems is how well designed and effective their cooling fans are (especially because we generally see some others leave much to be desired). During our testing, there were many occasions where games like Farcry 5 would throttle and cause higher temperatures (due to lower frame rates), but not once did we ever hear an excessive noise from our CPU or GPU fans. In fact, given how quiet they run I thought something might be wrong at first!

Battery Life

About 3 hours. I wish it was longer, but that’s about what you can expect from gaming laptops in Acer’s price range. To get more battery life, you’ll have to pay much more for a thicker and heavier machine with lesser performance.

Ports/Connectivity

Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop

The Acer Predator Helios 300 laptop has great connectivity. It has 2 USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, 1 USB 3.2 Gen1 port, 1 HDMI 2.1 port, and a full range of MiniDP and TYPE-C THUNDERBOLT™ 4 support. As far as audio jack goes, you are looking at two built-in speakers alongside an inbuilt subwoofer along with 7.1 channel surround sound so your games should sound fantastic. Alongside that, you have a S/PDIF digital output that will allow you to enjoy surround sound when connected to home theatre systems.

Conclusion

Acer has been making strides in delivering powerful gaming laptops at affordable prices. The Acer Predator Helios 300 is no exception to that rule. With a combination of decent specs and great build quality, it’s easily one of my favorite gaming laptops right now. I definitely recommend you get it if you’re looking for a mid-range gaming laptop. However, if you have any questions about it or anything else related to tech, make sure to leave them in the comments below!

  1. What about the screen bleed issue?
I am facing light bleeding of the corners and Acer is denying replacement on the grounds of IPS screen feature.

    1. Light bleed issues are relatively common on IPS screens. This can occur when, while assembling the laptop, excessive torque is applied to the display screws. Perhaps, loosening the screws that hold the display to the cover a little, can solve the problem. But I do not recommend you do this on your own. Seek competent technician.
